CONDITION CENSUS S-185 EX PROSKEY-SHELDON
LOT 234 1798 S-185 R2 Small 8, Style II Hair VF30 . Very attractive glossy medium chocolate brown and steel. Smooth with light wear and great eye appeal, but there are some fine hairline scratches on the face, a light scuff at the top of RTY, and a dull but light scratch off the upper end of the hair ribbon. The reverse is choice. E-MDS, Breen state III, with a light die crack from the T in LIBERTY to the rim opposite the end of the nose. Graded EF40 and tied for CC#2 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF40 net VF30 and tied for CC#5, his photo #26050. A nice cent in spite of the few marks, and it comes with an important provenance.
