LOT 219 1798 S-171 R4 Style II Hair, Small 8 F12 . Glossy olive brown and dark chocolate. Evenly worn with smooth surfaces and only minor contact marks. A dull prick at the bottom of the neck and a very small nick on the rim left of the first S in STATES are the best identifying marks. Rare TDS, Breen state VI late. A strong arcing die crack through the Y to the rim opposite the chin outlines a sunken retained cud break. An impressive example of an extremely rare die state. Graded F15 net F12 and finest known of the terminal die state in the Noyes census, his photo #38314. Another prize for the serious collector of significant die states.
