LOT 195 1798 S-153 R3 Style I Hair, Large 8 VF20 . Sharpness EF45 but there is a moderate scratch from the earlobe to the lower end of the hair ribbon and a dull but deeper scratch from the N in ONE to the NT in CENT. The surfaces look smooth to the unaided eye but a glass reveals extremely faint roughness under rather glossy dark olive brown and steel toning. There is a trace of hard verdigris nestled along the front edge of the nose and a very light scuff left of the eye. TDS, Breen state VII, with a strong rim cud at the end of the bust. Graded VF35 net VF25 and tied for CC#14 in the Bland census. Noyes says VF35 net VF20 and tied for CC#12 overall but tied for third finest of those known with the cud break, his photo #26221.
