FRED BORCHERDT’S HALL OF FAME COLLECTION 1793-1814 CENTS
LOT 142 1796 NC-3 R6- Draped Bust AG3 . Chocolate and olive brown with hints of reddish chocolate on the reverse. Slightly glossy but the surfaces are covered with fine to moderate roughness with traces of verdigris in some of the protected areas. The notable marks are a rim bruise at the L in LIBERTY and some light vertical scratches lost in the toning at the bust. Not very attractive but the date and legends are easily readable. EDS. Graded AG3 by Del Bland. Noyes says VG7 net Fair-2, his photo #26201. About two dozen are known of this variety with only two grading better than net VG8 in the Noyes census..

LOT 143 1796 NC-4 R5+ Draped Bust G5 . Olive brown and steel with lighter steel brown toning covering the devices. The surfaces are covered with fine to moderate granularity. No marks or verdigris. The date and legends are complete and easily readable, but they are not strong. EDS, Breen state I, without any die cracks on the reverse. Graded net G5 by Del Bland. Noyes says VG7 net G4, his photo #25782. About three dozen are known; most are in low grade with only one piece grading better than net VG.

LOT 144 1797 S-120a R3 Reverse of 1796, Plain Edge VG10 . Glossy medium olive brown with lighter steel brown toning n the devices. Mostly smooth with nice eye appeal for the grade. There are traces of shallow dirt or verdigris in some protected areas and a few small rim nicks at ATES OF AM. The date and legends are strong. MDS, Breen state III, with some crumbling on the profile and swelling at UNIT.
