EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 89

1795 S-76b R1 Plain Edge, Thin Planchet, PCGS graded AU55 . Glossy light olive and chocolate with frosty lighter brown in protected areas. Smooth and choice, essentially flawless if not for some microscopic planchet chips, mostly on the bust, around the eye, and at the O in OF. Lightly worn with great eye appeal. MDS, Breen state V. The pole is thinner due to die lapping and just touches the neck. Graded AU50 net EF45 by Noyes, his photo #28953. Our grade is EF45+ . A very attractive example of this common die variety. 35723.55/57538503

S-76B WITH CLIPPED PLANCHET

LOT 90 1795 S-76b R1 Plain Edge, Thin Planchet, PCGS AU Detail, Corrosion Removed . A sharp cent with very little wear, but there are a few light scratches at the date and an area of minor roughness at ITE into the leaves below. Otherwise this cent is choice and the eye appeal is really nice. Glossy light to medium brown with splashes of reddish chocolate at ITED. MDS, Breen state VI, with subtle bulges in the fields on the obverse and the pole is shorter due to die polishing. A curved planchet clip affects the dentils at the cap and the opposing ones over NITE. A very attractive example of this relatively common type of mint error in spite of the minor defects. Our grade is AU50 sharpness net VF35. 35723.97/57516975
