1795 S-75 R3 Lettered Edge PCGS graded AU55 . Glossy light to medium brown with slightly darker steel brown and olive on the highpoints. Smooth and choice except for an unobtrusive spot of smooth reddish verdigris or crud nestled over the second T in STATES. The rest of the planchet is perfectly smooth and the only other notable mark is a small horizontal nick high on the cheek. M-LDS, Breen state IV, with fine die cracks and minor swelling. Graded EF45 net EF40 by Noyes, his photo #28908. Our grade is EF40+ . 35717.55/57538502

THIRD FINEST S-76A LETTERED EDGE

LOT 88 1795 S-76a R5 Lettered Edge, Thick Planchet, PCGS AU Detail, Cleaned . A sharp, lightly worn cent that may have been lightly cleaned and retoned long ago. Glossy tan and light brown with some olive brown on the left side of the obverse with a streak of similar toning on the reverse. The surfaces are smooth except for a few tiny planchet voids in the obverse fields and a couple shallow flakes under the C in CENT (as struck). MDS, Breen state II, with some light die clashmarks on both sides. A relatively new example, not evaluated by Noyes or Bland. Our grade is AU50 sharpness net EF40. The third finest of this tough Lettered Edge variant in our opinion, and the second finest resides in the ANS Collection. 35720.92/57516974
