EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 659 1853 N-33 R2 Repunched 1 AU55. A sharp, very attractive cent that has the faintest trace of rub on the highest points plus a few light contact marks. The notable marks are nick hidden in the folds on the right side of the ear, another on the lowest curl on the neck, and a few very tiny ticks on the rim at the top of the obverse. None of the marks is distracting and this cent has really nice eye appeal. Sharp EDS, die state a. All the early die lines are clear and the dash left of the base of the 1 is strong.

LOT 662 1854 N-2 R1 MS60+. Glossy golden brown and light chocolate with hints of sea green overtone on the reverse. A spot of darker toning in the field off the tip of the nose is the only notable mark. EDS, die state a. The obverse fields are smooth and slightly reflective with microscopic die polishing lines visible around the portrait. A sharp die line passes across the bottom of the N in ONE and clear die clashmarks show in the usual places inside the wreath. The strike is typical for this variety; the tip of the coronet is very weak and most of the stars are missing their radial lines. Our grade is MS60+, CC#8 in the Grellman census.

LOT 660 1853 N-33 R2 Repunched 1, PCGS graded MS64 Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous light olive and steel brown with generous traces of mellowed mint red remaining on both sides. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is excellent. The notable marks, and they are trivial, are a tiny tick on the end of the chin and a small spot of very fine carbon tucked between the bottom of the E in ONE and the adjacent leaf. LDS, die state b. The dash to the left of the base of the 1 is gone. Our grade is MS60+, tied for CC#8 in the Grellman census. 1901.64/15291115

LOT 663 1854 N-3 R1 AU58+. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate. This is a sharply struck mint state cent that has a couple small contact marks. The notable marks are a thin vertical nick on the bust tip and a couple thin nicks on the rim over the I in UNITED. EDS, die state a. The fine die line through star 6 to the head is clear. The nick on the bust is barely visible and the eye appeal of this cent is quite nice.
