EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 550 1851 N-14 R2 First 1 Repunched, PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Lustrous steel and light olive brown with delicate overtones of light bluish steel. The only notable contact mark is a nick on three dentils over the first A in AMERICA. Looks mint state but there is a hint of friction on the very highest points of the devices. MDS, die state b. The repunching under the base of the 1 is faint but still visible, especially at the left end. A shallow low spot (caused by debris on the die) covers the bust and truncation, and a couple more low spots show inside the wreath. Our grade is AU58+. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. 406686.63/30481415
LOT 548 1851 N-12/11 R1 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Lustrous light to medium brown and light chocolate with peeps of mint red on both sides. The surfaces are smooth and satiny, and this cent has great eye appeal. The only notable mark, and it is trivial, is a tiny swipe of slightly darker toning at the peak of the first 1. LDS, die state d (Newcomb’s #11). The die lines at the inner and main curls are gone. A nice cent that comes with a very nice provenance. Our grade is MS60 but the eye appeal suggests a higher grade. The attribution and Iskra Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 406680.64/81161864

LOT 551 1851 N-14 R2 First 1 Repunched AU50+. Close to mint state with a trace of rub on the highest points of the devices, but there is a fine diagonal line of microscopic ticks on the lower half of the neck. Otherwise quite nice, and the ticks on the neck are microscopic. LDS, die state c. The repunching under the first 1 and the line at the neck are both gone. The fields on both sides show microscopic nearly vertical die polishing lines from a fresh die polishing (that most likely removed the repunching and die line).

LOT 549 1851 N-13 R1 PCGS graded MS62 Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous light olive and steel brown with mellowed mint red in protected areas on the reverse. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is excellent. No spots or stains. The only marks are a faint diagonal nick just right of the nostril and a fine diagonal hairline scratch in the field before the lips. Neither mark is visible to the unaided eye. LDS, die state d (Reiver’s old #43). The points from the main curl are gone. Our grade is MS60, tied for CC#11 in the Grellman census. The attribution and Iskra Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 406683.62/81161865

LOT 552 1851 N-15 R3 MS62. Frosty medium brown and steel with underlying very faded mint color peeking through in the fields and protected areas on both sides. Nearly flawless; the only notable marks are a barely visible nearly vertical nick on the cheek and a tiny chip or rim nick over the left top of the second T in STATES. M-LDS, die state b. The points from the throat are gone.
