EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 887 1853 N-16 R1+ EF45+. Sharpness closer to mint state but there are a few light contact marks on the obverse and a spot of reddish brown toning under IC in AMERICA. The only notable contact marks are a tiny scratch left of the peak of the 1 and a dull tick right of the 3. MDS, die state b. The fields are lightly flowlined, there are no die clashmarks, and some of the earlier vertical die lines at the E in ONE are still visible. Attractive for the grade.
LOT 884 1853 N-12 R1+ VF35. Sharpness near EF45 but recolored glossy light olive with peeps of very faded red in some of the protected areas on both sides. Smooth and attractive with just a few tiny ticks on the cheek. LDS, die state c. The vertical line inside the top of the N in ONE is gone and the line down from the O in OF is weak but visible.

LOT 885 1853 N-14 R2+ Repunched 18 VF30. Glossy light to medium brown and light chocolate. Smooth with no notable defects, just light wear on the devices. E-MDS, die state c, with a narrow rim cud break from star 11.5 to below star 12. The repunching under the 1 is clear but the repunching on the 8 is gone.
LOT 888 1853 N-20 R3 Repunched 53 EF40. Five points sharper with some small, light nicks on the cheek and in the field before the portrait. None of the marks is significant but there are a few too many for this level of sharpness. The best identifying mark is a small spot of darker brown toning just right of the nostril. Glossy light brown and tan with medium brown toning on the highpoints. Mint frost shows in the fields and protected areas. MDS, die state a late. The diagonal die lines above RI in AMERICA are dull but visible. The repunching below the 5 & 3 is bold.

LOT 886 1853 N-15 R2 Repunched 5 VF30. Five points sharper but there are tiny nicks scattered over the obverse, none significant. A small nick on the rim below star 1 is the best identifying mark. E-MDS, die state a late. Roughness is just starting to show in the field around UNITED STATES and the early die line from the chin to star 3 is gone. The top of the stray 5 is clearly visible at the left top of the normal 5.
LOT 889 1853 N-21 R3 VF30+. Sharpness EF45 but there are a few small patches of fine corrosion and verdigris on the reverse, strongest around ATES OF and the leaves below. The only notable mark on the lower half of the reverse is a pit under the right side of the N in CENT. Glossy brown and steel with darker steel brown on the highpoints. Nicely struck E-MDS, die state a late. The fields are just starting to show radial die flowlines but the diagonal lines from the lowest curl are still visible.
