EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 170 1795 C-2a R-3 Lettered Edge, Punctuated Date F12 . Choice tan and light chocolate brown’s. Smooth surfaces free of notable marks with excellent eye appeal for the grade. Well struck with sharp details, clear punctuated date feature. MDS Manley State 2.0.

LOT 171 1795 C-2b R-6+ Plain Edge VG7 . Fine sharpness but there is minor roughness and a few scattered pits on the surfaces, smoother on the highest points. Dark brown surfaces, sharp details. Overall a decent example for this very tough variety. Manley State 1.0. 71.6 grains.

LOT 173 1795 C-4 R-3 VF30 . Choice frosty medium brown and light chocolate. The only contact marks are a faint hairline scratch from the lips to the cap and a blunt rim nick opposite the lips. Great eye appeal except for the usual weakness in the centers. The softly struck central areas show some of the usual microscopic planchet chips that didn’t strike out completely. HALF CENT is weak and a few letters are missing completely, typical for the late die state. The areas closer to the rim on both sides are sharply struck and display very little wear. LDS, Manley 2.0. Weight 83.5 grains.

LOT 172 1795 C-3 R-5 Punctuated Date Plain Edge VG7 . A few points sharper but very fine, uniform granularity covers the surfaces. There is also an impressed arc on the reverse from 12 to 3 o’clock, and a chip or flake at 12:30, and the 5 of the date is gone opposite of where the arc lines up indicating it was likely a mint error. Otherwise sharp details with strong date and legends. EDS, Manley state 1.0. 77.4 grains. 

LOT 174 1795 C-5a R-3 No Pole VF20 . Glossy choice light brown. There are a few wispy pin scratches on the portrait and fields that blend in very well with the toning, and there is a tiny planchet clip at 1:30. Choice toning and surfaces, great eye appeal. EDS, Manley state 1.0.
