EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 145 1839 N-13 R2 Booby Head, PCGS graded MS64 Brown . Frosty light olive and bluish steel brown with faded mint red in protected areas, mostly on the reverse. Satiny mint luster covers this cent and the eye appeal is quite nice. The notable marks are some small spots of reddish brown toning including one on the bust, another under star 11, one over the M in AMERICA and a smaller one over the C. The spots are not distracting but they do contain traces of microscopic roughness. Sharply struck with full radial lines in all the stars and sharp hair details. MDS, die state b, with fine die cracks on the reverse. Graded MS63 and tied for CC#2 honors in the Noyes census, his photo #27243. Our grade is MS63 net MS62. LOT 146 1839 N-14 R3 Booby Head, PCGS graded MS66 Brown . Frosty steel and light olive brown faded down from mint color with faded original red in protected areas, especially on the reverse where about 25% of that side has faded original color. This cent is a solid gem except for a dull nick or shallow scuff in the field close to the brow lock, a few very tiny ticks on the coronet over LI, and a small spot of fine carbon under the E in CENT. There are numerous fine raised die lines on the cheek from microscopic scratches on the die, as always on this variety. E-MDS, die state a. Nicely struck with satiny surfaces and great eye appeal. Most of the stars show full radial lines and all the dentils are well defined. The reverse is lightly cracked, as always, and the short bar down from the dentils over the upright of the R in AMERICA is clear. Called MS65 and tied for CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #21603.
