LOT 143 1839 N-12 R4+ Booby Head VF30 . Ten points sharper with nice eye appeal, but there are too many small contact marks for the sharpness grade. Most of the notable marks on the reverse including a nick on the T in CENT plus a few rim nicks at NI and ED in UNITED. Frosty reddish brown and light chocolate. MDS, die state b, with a clear die crack from the dentils through star 4 to the nose and beyond to under the eye. Called VF35 net VF30 and tied for CC#6 in the Noyes census, his photo #36037. Graded VF35 and tied for CC#7 in the Bland census. A sharp example of this tough die variety.

LOT 144 1839 N-12 R4+ Booby Head F15 . Glossy light olive with a spot of darker olive brown over star 8, and the spot contains traces of microscopic verdigris. The only notable mark is a scratch left of star 11. LDS, die state c, with a bisecting die crack from the rim at star 4 to the rim above star 12. A very nice example of this die state.
