LOT 134 1839 N-7 R2 Booby Head, PCGS graded MS64 Brown . Frosty golden brown and light bluish steel with subtle overtones of sea green and peeps of mint color in the protected areas on both sides. No spots, stains, or contact marks, but there are many microscopic planchet flakes in and near the dentils on both sides. A faint planchet lamination at the dentils just right of the D in UNITED can help identify this cent. M-LDS, die state c. The die cracks on the obverse are clear and die clashmarks show inside the wreath including an impression of the inner ear over the N in CENT. Called MS63 and tied for CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #27000. Bland says MS64 and CC#2. Our grade is MS63. 37243.64/13092005

 CONDITION CENSUS HEAD OF 1840

LOT 135 1839 N-8 R1 Head of 1840, PCGS graded MS63 Brown . Lustrous light bluish steel and violet with mellowed rose in protected areas. The surfaces are satiny and the only notable marks are traces of a fingerprint at stars 7-9, a small spot of darker toning close below star 8, and a tiny tick on the diagonal of the N in CENT. MDS, die state b, with lightly flowlined fields. The early die line from the lower berry right of the E in ONE to the leaf below is gone but the narrow rim cud under the 839 has not formed. Graded MS63 by Noyes and tied for CC#3 in his census, photo #27127. Our grade is MS63.
