LOT 126 1839/6 N-1 R3+ Overdate 9 over 6, PCGS graded VF30, CAC Approved . Glossy light steel brown blending to medium olive in protected areas with medium steel brown on the highpoints. Smooth with minor contact marks including some small nicks in the field before the face and a light nick under the right side of star7. The best identifying marks are a planchet flake in the dentils at the left top of the I in AMERICA and another on the end of the wreath ribbon (both as struck). MDS, die state b late. A die crack from the dentils over star 3 to the nose is clear, but there is no crack on the other side of the portrait. The overdate feature is clear. Our grade is VF20. A very nice mid-grade example of this popular “Redbook” overdate. Housed in an older generation holder (OGH). (The holder is lightly scuffed.). 1756.30/6547908

LOT 127 1839 N-2 R2 Head of 1838, PCGS graded MS64 Brown . Highly lustrous light olive and bluish steel with lighter tan faded down from mint color in some of the protected areas, mostly on the obverse. A gem cent except for a thin scuff between stars 7 & 8 and a few microscopic ticks between stars 6 & 7. A tiny speck of bright mint color close over the right top of the E in CENT is a good identifying mark. Satiny and very attractive in spite of the minor marks. E-MDS, die state a. The die lines at RICA and STA are very dull but still visible. Called MS63 Choice and tied for CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #28799. Bland says MS63 and CC#5.
