THE TERRY DENMAN COLLECTION PART II  CHOICE N-12 DOUBLED DIE REVERSE

LOT 119 1838 N-12 R2 PCGS graded MS66 Brown, CAC Approved . Highly lustrous light olive and bluish steel brown with a few faint wisps of slightly darker bluish steel toning on the neck and in the field under the chin. Hints of very faded mint color can be found in protected areas of the reverse. A small puff of dark bluish steel toning at the dentils right of star 11 is the best identifying mark. E-MDS and sharply struck except for weakness on the upper stars. The dentils are crisp around both sides and the doubling on the reverse (from a doubled die, not die bounce) is obvious on the left side of the wreath, especially at the berry and leaf under TE in UNITED. A satiny, really choice cent; a variety that is usually found in later die states with mushy details due to die wear. The PCGS grade and CAC approval attest to the superior eye appeal of this piece. Called MS62 and tied for CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #21739. Bland says MS60+ and tied for CC#2 among the confirmed examples in his census. LOT 120 1838 N-14 R4 PCGS graded MS64 Brown . Lustrous light olive and chocolate brown with frosty lighter steel brown covering the fields. Hints of bluish steel overtone show in the protected areas and this cent has really nice eye appeal. The fields are satiny and very attractive, and the surfaces are virtually void of marks. The notable marks are a couple tiny carbon spots on the lower edge of the bust and a small rim nick below star 1. EDS, die state a, before any rim cuds or crumbling in the dentils over star 7. Nicely struck on the main devices but stars 1-5 do not show all their radial lines and many of the dentils are not fully impressed. Called MS62 and tied for CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #36903. Bland says MS62 and finest known. Our grade is MS62. (The front of the holder is scratched.). 37216.64/13093944
