EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 85 1837 N-2 R2 Plain Hair Cord, Medium Letters, PCGS graded MS64 Brown . Glossy steel and light chocolate with faded mint color showing on both sides, especially on the reverse. A spot of darker toning over the O in ONE and an arc of similar toning from right of the F in OF down to the N in CENT are the only marks visible without a glass. Frosty mint luster shows in the fields and protected areas on both sides, and this cent has very nice eye appeal. M-LDS, die state e. There is a clearly raised retained cud up from star 4 to the rim left of star 5, and another raised retained cud has developed down from the left side of star 3. Called MS60+ and tied for CC#1 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS60 net AU55 and tied for CC#3, his photo #21918. Our grade is AU58. 37150.64/13086974 Ex John Borhek 1974-William C. Noyes 10/1982-R. LOT 86 1837 N-2 R2 Plain Hair Cord, Medium Letters VF30 . Glossy medium brown blending to chocolate in protected areas. Smooth with small contact marks scattered over both sides, mostly in the field before the portrait. A tiny rim nick left of star 4 and a small pinprick in the field close before the eye may help identify this cent. Extremely rare TDS, die state g, with a large cud break connecting star 4 to the rim. Graded VF35 net VF25 and second finest of the terminal state in the Noyes census, his photo #59621. Noyes lists only 3 examples of the terminal die state in his census, although there may be a couple more out there somewhere. A great die state for the serious collector of this series.
