EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

 MOSTLY RED 1835 N-5

LOT 56 1835 N-5 R2 Head of 1834, Small 8 & Stars, PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown . Choice lustrous mint red fading to steel brown and olive on the highpoints with at least half of the original mint color remaining. Nearly flawless with satiny surfaces and superior eye appeal. The best identifying marks, and it takes a glass to see them, are a tiny planchet flake on the bust over the 1, a thin vertical struck-through line at the top of the E in CENT, and a tiny spot of darker toning (not carbon) at the left top of the F in OF. MDS with fine radial die flowlines in the obverse fields. The line at the bottom of the 835 is clear. Not listed in the Noyes census. Our grade is MS64, finest known in our census; clearly superior to the finest listed in the Noyes census. A wonderful example of the Head of 1834 type. 37085.64/36186795

LOT 57 1835 N-6 R1 Head of 1834, Small 8 & Stars, PCGS graded MS63 Brown . Lustrous bluish steel brown with 10-15% of the original mint red remaining. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is excellent. The only notable mark is a tiny nick right of the mouth. MDS, die state b late, with a very thin rim cud break (crumbling at the dentil roots) between stars 2 & 3 and the usual die line through the 835. The repunching on the right bottom of the C in AMERICA is dull but still visible and the reverse is not rotated. Called MS60 and tied for CC#4 in the Noyes census, his photo #37130. Our grade is MS60. (The back of the holder is scuffed.). 37087.63/15109039
