LOT 35 1832 N-3 R1 Large Letters MS60 . Frosty light olive and steel brown with hints of underlying very faded red on the reverse, possibly from an old cleaning. The surfaces are satiny and the strike is very sharp. The only mark is a tiny tick in the middle of the neck. E-MDS, die state a. There is a strong double profile from the forelock down to the chin with weaker doubling on the front edge of the coronet and upper half of the neck. A triple profile shows on the lower half of the nose and on the lower lip, all caused by machine doubling or “die bounce”. A sharp, attractive cent.

 CONDITION CENSUS 1833 N-1 EX NAFTZGER

LOT 36 1833 N-1 R2 PCGS graded MS65 Brown . Lustrous light brown and steel. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the only marks are a couple wisps of darker toning at stars 12 & 13 and spots of similar toning under the right end of the line below CENT. LDS, die state c. The lump between the tops of the T & A in STATES is gone and there is a narrow rim cud in the dentil roots at star 4 to star 4.5. Graded MS60 and tied for CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #20665. Our grade is MS62+. This is one only a few varieties that was missing from the Naftzger collection that was sold in our 2/1/2009 sale of his 1816-1839 cents (conducted in conjunction with the Goldbergs). It was sold privately by the family prior to the auction, and it was the finest example of the variety he ever owned. 1696.65/37485571
