EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

 THE NEWCOMB-STARR 1832 N-2

LOT 33 1832 N-2 R3- Medium & Large Letters, PCGS graded MS65 Brown . Very attractive lustrous medium brown and light olive with generous traces of mellowed mint color remaining visible on both sides. Delicate overtones of light bluish steel cover much of the reverse and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. The best identifying marks, and they are barely visible, are a small spot of darker toning between the tops of the I & B in LIBERTY and another in the field near the middle curl at the back of the head. MDS. The obverse is cracked (as always on this variety), the fields are flowlined, and traces of repunching around the first S in STATES remain visible. Graded MS60 and tied for CC#4 in the Noyes census, his photo #28574. Bland says MS60+ and tied for CC#3. Our grade is MS62. A beautiful cent that comes with a great provenance that has been traced back over a century. Plated in the 1944 Newcomb reference on the cents of 1816-1857 (Plate VII, Obverse 2, Reverse B). LOT 34 1832 N-2 R3- Small and Large Letters MS60+ . Beautiful lustrous steel and light olive brown with unbroken satiny mint frost covering this cent. Flawless except for a single small nick in the field before the front edge of the coronet. LDS, die state b, with flowlined fields on both sides. The misplaced S right of the D in UNITED is no longer visible. A wonderful cent, close to MS63.
