EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 25 1831 N-10 R3 Large Letters EF45 . At least 5 points sharper but lightly cleaned and retoned dark steel on the devices with very faded red in protected areas. No marks, just light friction on the highpoints. Sharply struck EDS, die state a, with sharp dentils around the obverse and no rim cud at stars 8-9. The obverse fields are smooth showing no trace of die flowlines. Sharp and attractive; reported to have been removed from a PCGS holder graded AU58.  Ex Thomas D. LOT 26 1831 N-10 R3 Large Letters, PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown . Lustrous mint red fading to steel brown and light olive with 25% of the planchet showing mint color, mostly on the obverse. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is excellent. The only defects are a few spots of darker toning on both sides, the most notable ones being in the field before the eye, under the first T in STATES, and on the first A in AMERICA. Otherwise this cent is choice. LDS, die state c, with a rim cud from star 8.5 to star 9.5 and a die crack across the upper part of the reverse. Graded MS65 and tied for CC#1 honors in the Bland census. Noyes says MS60 and tied for CC#5, his photo #20752. Our grade is MS62. An important cent that comes with a very nice provenance. 36986.64/83245081
