EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 21 1831 N-7 R1 Large Letters, PCGS graded MS63 Brown, CAC Approved . Frosty light to medium brown with slightly darker steel brown on the highpoints. Traces of faded mint red show in protected areas, especially on the reverse. A swipe of darker bluish steel and olive toning at stars 3-7 is the best identifying mark. LDS, die state b. Fine radial die flowlines cover the fields and crumbling fills the notch on the right side of the R in AMERICA. The PCGS label says this piece is N-6, but it is N-7. Called MS60+ by Del Bland. Noyes says MS60 and tied for CC#7, his photo #24254. Our grade is MS60. The incorrect N-6 attribution and Ralls Collection provenance are shown on the PCGS label. 36973.63/28472434

LOT 22 1831 N-8 R3 Large Letters MS60+ . Lustrous light greenish olive brown and steel with traces of faded mint red in protected areas on both sides. Satiny mint frost covers the fields and protected areas, and this cent has very nice eye appeal. The only notable defects are three tiny specks of carbon: one on the bottom edge of the truncation above the 8, another on the upper left edge of the hair bun, and a third close under star 5. Otherwise this cent is choice. MDS, die state d, with a fine but clear die crack through the tops of TED-ST. Called MS60+ and tied for CC#2 in the Bland census. Noyes photo #36861.
