EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 17 1831 N-3 R1 Medium Letters, PCGS graded MS64+ Brown, CAC Approved . Lustrous light steel brown with subtle overtones of light bluish steel. Hints of faded mint color are bleeding through the delicate toning on both sides. Satiny mint frost covers the planchet and this cent has great eye appeal. The only marks, and they are barely visible, are a couple of small spots of lighter reddish tan toning at the ear and in the hair below plus a tiny rim nick at the bottom of the reverse. MDS. Called MS62 and CC#9 in the Noyes census, his photo #56022. LOT 18 1831 N-4 R4 Medium Letters VF35+ . Slightly sharper but there are some small contact marks on otherwise smooth, attractive surfaces. The notable marks are a dull nick just right of the date and a couple tiny scratches over star 9. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate with lighter brown in the fields and protected areas, especially on the reverse. Sharply struck with exception of some weakness at CE, as usual for this variety. EDS, die state a, with smooth fields and an uncracked obverse. A nice example of a variety that is difficult to find in grades above VF.
