EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 478 1848 N-32 R-5 VF20 . Glossy light olive and chocolate browns. There are traces of faint roughness in a few places on the obverse rim, otherwise the surfaces are smooth and attractive. No verdigris, and only a few minor marks. EDS, the die cracks on the reverse are light but visible, and parallel die lines show from the dentils at stars 11-13. Tied for CC#5 honors in the Grellman census.

LOT 481 1850 N-21 R-1 MS60BN . Choice light chocolate brown gently mottled with darker brown, and peeps of very faded mint red in some protected areas. Free of notable marks. Frosty, lustrous surfaces. LDS (old N-10) with two reverse rim breaks over TES and F in OF.

LOT 482 1850 N-26 R-4 AU55 . Near UNC sharpness but there are some olive stains on the obverse as well as wispy pin scratches on Liberty’s cheek and before her mouth and nose. Frosty, lustrous surfaces. Dark chocolate and steel browns with hints of faded mint red in some reverse protected areas. Broken out of an NGC MS63BN holder (653598-001, tag included).

LOT 479 1849 N-2 R-2 ANACS EF45 . Frosty light olive blending to light chocolate in protected areas. Microscopic specks of darker olive brown are sprinkled over the obverse, and these are visible only under strong magnification. Sharply struck LDS, die state dd, with extensive crumbling around devices on the reverse. Our grade is EF40. 7341055

LOT 483 1851/81 N-3 R-1 ANACS AU53 . Frosty light to medium brown. Sharply struck and very attractive. The only mark is a light scuff on the leaf under the U in UNITED. EDS, die state a, with die lines in the obverse fields. The 51/81 feature is strong. A nice example of this “Redbook” variety. Our grade is AU50. 7537298

LOT 480 1850 N-11 R-3 VF30 . XF sharpness but there are several maroon stains on both sides and a few specks of old verdigris below C in CENT. There are also trivial nicks in the fields and one atop the 8. Medium brown and olive browns on glossy surfaces.
