LOT 463 1839 N-8 R-1 Head of 1840 XF40 . 5 points sharper but there are traces of shallow carbon on the obverse between stars 3-4, under star 6, and between stars 10-11. Smooth surfaces otherwise with only the most trivial of marks. Glossy chocolate and olive browns.

LOT 465 1841 N-2 R-2 XF45 . Steel brown with underlying lighter brown. The notable marks include faint pin scratches on LIberty’s cheek and neck, one below the chin, and another right of star 4. Smooth surfaces with subtle mint frost remaining in some protected areas. LDS, die state b.

LOT 464 1840 N-6 R-1 MS60BN . Attractive, frosty deep olive “greenie” toning. There are a few minor rim bumps at star 13, and a couple flakes after F in OF. Lustrous frosty surfaces with no signs of wear. MDS, die state b.

LOT 466 1842 N-6 R-1 AU55 . Nicely retoned an attractive olive brown gently mottled with light brown on the portrait and with hints of underlying faded mint red. There are also various trivial marks on the portrait and fields, nothing major or distracting, and a touch of rub on the high points. Cartwheel luster covers both sides. E-MDS, die state b.

LOT 467 1843 N-17 R-5 VF30+ . EF45 sharpness but there are numerous small nicks scattered on both sides preventing the higher grade. The notable ones are in the field before the mouth and chin, as well as a rim nick left of the first S in STATES. Frosty steel brown and light chocolate with traces of mint frost in the protected areas. EDS. Tied for CC#3 honors in the Grellman census.
