EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 445 1824 N-2 R-2 EF40 . AU50 but there are some stains on the obverse and a rim dent below the stem on the reverse. Mottled steel and ruddy brown tones with a splash of darker olive from stars 4-7. Glossy, smooth surfaces. EDS.

LOT 442 1822 N-8 R-4 VF30 . Glossy lighter brown in the fields, deeper steely chocolate on the devices. There is a thin mark under star 7, the only notable mark. M-LDS, with a clear bisecting die crack on the reverse through F in OF down to the wreath ribbon.

LOT 446 1824 N-4 R-2 EF45 . Attractive golden brown and light olive with slightly darker brown on some high points. There are some wispy pin scratches above ONE that blend in well, the only notable marks. Satiny, lustrous surfaces. LDS, with fine die breaks from 4 to the right through stars 11-13, and another connecting stars 5-6.

LOT 443 1823 N-2 R-2 VF25 . 5 points sharper but there is some micro granularity on the reverse, most notable around OF. There are few trivial marks on the portrait and fields, nothing notable or distracting. Glossy dark steel and olive surfaces with hints of lighter brown on the highest points of the portrait. LOT 447 1825 N-2 R-2 VF30 . 10 points sharper but there is minor corrosion over UNI. Attractive golden brown and tan mottled with olive tones with hints of frost in some revere protected areas. Free of notable marks.

LOT 444 1823 Restrike EF40 . AU sharpness but cleaned and now toned pleasing golden olive and light brown. Some of the usual die rust was minimized by the cleaning. E-MDS with a bisecting die crack across the obverse from the rim under star 5 to the rim at star 12. A weaker crack extends down from the dentils between stars 7 & 8 into the field above the head, but this crack never strengthens. The reverse is uncracked and the fields are slightly reflective on both sides. Struck outside the US Mint for Mr. Mickley sometime between 1863 and 1879.

LOT 448 1825 N-8 R-2 VF25 . VF35 sharpness but there is old verdigris over TES in STATES and a few dark spots on the obverse and under AM in AM in AMERICA. There are some trivial marks, one right of star 2 and and one under the ribbon tail. Olive and steel browns with ruddy brown underneath.
