EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 431 1813 S-293 R-2 VF20 . 10 points sharper but retoned and now a mix of olive, steel brown, and ruddy tan tones. There are also various trivial nicks and a few hairline scratches scattered on the fields and devices, the most notable include one through star 2, a few around 18, and a rim bruise at U in UNITED. Smooth, hard surfaces. LDS, Breen state IV.

LOT 432 1814 S-294 R1 Crosslet 4 VF30 . Slightly sharper with smooth surfaces and very nice eye appeal, but there is a light scratch through the curl on the neck. Glossy brown and light chocolate. Nicely struck MDS, Breen state II, with light die clashmarks.

LOT 435 1814 S-295 R1 Plain 4 VF35 . Ten points sharper with three small cuts on the rim: one at star 10, another below the 8, and a tiny one at star 2. Glossy brown and light chocolate with frost in protected areas, but there is crud nestled up against most of the portrait and around the date. The obverse fields are quite smooth, almost reflective, thanks to a fresh die polishing. E-MDS, Breen state IV early. The die crack from star 11 through the curl is very light.

LOT 433 1814 S-294 R-1 Crosslet 4 VF30 . XF sharpness but there are several marks on and before the nose. Only trivial marks otherwise. Glossy medium to dark chocolate browns on smooth, hard surfaces.

LOT 436 1814 S-295 R1 Plain 4 AU50 . Frosty light steel brown with a couple faint hints of faded mint red on the reverse. Satiny and very attractive with just a hint of friction on the highest points of the devices. The only marks, and they are microscopic, are a tiny scratch at the right corner of the eye and another at the truncation near the lowest curl. MDS, Breen state IX, with a lump at the throat and a smaller one under the lower lip.

LOT 434 1814 S-295 R-1 VF35 . 5 points sharper but lightly cleaned and nicely retoned glossy chocolate brown with some frosty lighter steel brown in the protected areas. The reverse also has subtle overtones of reddish steel and dark olive toning at the rim over D-STATES. The only mark is a tiny pinprick under star 7. No verdigris, smooth surfaces. E-MDS, Breen state II.
