EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 413 1807/6 S-273 R1 Overdate Large 7 over 6 EF40 . Attractive glossy light brown and chocolate with darker steel brown on the highpoints and frosty tan in protected areas. Smooth with very nice eye appeal and trivial contact marks including a pair of hairline scratches below the E in AMERICA and a dull nick inside the O in ONE. LDS, Breen state IV, with clashmarks and swelling on both sides. Graded EF45 net EF40 by Noyes, his photo #26175.

LOT 416 1808 S-278 R3 VF20 . Glossy medium brown and steel with frosty lighter brown in protected areas on the obverse. The toning is quite attractive and looks original, but the obverse was lightly smoothed and the cent was retoned. No notable marks and the eye appeal is still quite nice for the grade. EDS, Breen state I, with sharp dentils on both sides.

LOT 417 1808 S-278 R3 VF20 . The obverse is slightly weaker while the reverse is sharper, a common result of the late die state. Glossy chocolate brown and steel with slightly lighter toning on the lower third of the obverse thanks to an aggressive brushing in that area.. M-LDS (possibly LDS), with heavily worn dies and an obvious rim break from star 5 to star 7. Centering does not allow us to determine if the later rim cuds at stars 8-12 are present.

LOT 414 1807 S-274 R2 Small Fraction VG8 . A couple points sharper with some very fine roughness inside the wreath; otherwise the surfaces are smooth. The only notable marks are a minor rim bruise off the upper end of the hair ribbon and another left of the fraction. Glossy chocolate and steel with reddish brown in the roughened area inside the wreath. LDS, Breen state IV, with heavy swelling that obliterates STA and causes softness on the opposing lower curls.

LOT 418 1808 S-279 R1 F15 . Ten points sharper with a scuff of diagonal scratches on the portrait above the neck, and that area has been lightly smoothed. The reverse is considerably sharper thanks to the high rims and is flawless. Perhaps a net 10 obverse and VF30 reverse. Glossy chocolate brown mottled with lighter and darker tones on the recolored obverse. TDS, the latest seen, with badly worn dies and a strong lump in the leaves below TA in STATES.

LOT 415 1808 S-277 R2 VF30 . Glossy light olive and steel brown with reddish chocolate in some of the protected areas. No notable marks but there are traces of verdigris in protected areas on the reverse. E-MDS, Breen state IV, with a single crack through the D in UNITED. Obvious swelling at TA caused significant weakness on the first star, the so-called 12-Star die state
