LOT 410 1806 S-270 R1 EF40+ . Glossy light olive brown mottled with some darker olive and tan toning. Mint frost shows in the protected areas, particularly on the reverse. Just light friction on the highpoints with the sharpness of a higher grade, but there is a scratch hidden along the upper edge of the bust into the neck where it fades away. LDS, Breen state IV, with clashmarks and subtle bulges on both sides.

LOT 411 1807 S-271 R-1 “Comet” Variety VF25 . Pleasing medium brown with hints of underlying tan. There is some deep reddish tones on the central obverse, around and behind the hair braid, and the lower reverse. Only a few trivial marks, a vertical pin scratch over N in CENT the only worth noting. Smooth surfaces. Breen State VII with the bold comet break on the obverse. Broken out of an old green PCGS VF30 holder (1531.30/2302676, tag included)

LOT 408 1805 S-267 R-1 EF40 . AU55 sharpness but there are spots of shallow, light corrosion minimized by an old cleaning and retoning. Now toned mostly deep steel brown with areas of lighter ruddy brown. Only the most trivial of marks, nothing noteworthy. Donated to EAC by Wendell Lutz.

LOT 409 1805 S-267 R-1 EF45 . Slightly sharper with smooth surfaces and nice eye appeal, but there is a light scratch in the field below the hair ribbon and another from the lips into the field. Glossy tan with steel brown toning on the highpoints and in the field before the portrait. Sharply struck E-MDS, Breen state II, with die clashmarks on both sides and smooth, hard fields. Graded EF45 by Del Bland. Noyes says AU50 net EF45 and tied for CC#17, his photo #31945.

LOT 412 1807 S-271 R1 “Comet” Variety VF20 . Sharpness near VF30 but lightly cleaned and nicely retoned long ago. Glossy light to medium chocolate with traces of tan in protected areas. The surfaces are smooth and the only marks are a speck of carbon in the field under the jaw and another spot of carbon in the lower curls. M-LDS, Breen state VI, with a nicely formed Comet in the field behind the head in addition to the earlier linear die flaws in the fields. Graded VF30 net VF20 and tied for CC#25 in the Noyes census, his photo #29007. This is the Noyes plate coin for the later die state in his 1991 reference on the cents of 1793-1814.
