LOT 399 1803 S-256 R-3 EF40 . Attractive glossy olive brown and steel with frosty tan in protected areas. The only notable mark is a very light rim bruise just right of the fraction. MDS, Breen state III, with die clashmarks and fine die cracks on both sides, and there is swelling at STA. Has the eye appeal of a nice EF45 cent. Graded EF40 and tied for CC#10 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF40 and tied for CC#9, his photo #26163.

LOT 401 1803 S-259 R-4 Large Fraction VF35 . Slightly sharper with smooth surfaces and very little wear, but the toning is uneven, especially on the obverse, and there are some trivial contact marks on the portrait. Glossy tan and light chocolate with small splashes of slightly darker chocolate toning sprinkled over the obverse. Satiny mint frost shows in the fields and protected areas on the reverse. E-MDS, Breen state II, with die clashmarks on both sides, a light crack through the top of STATE, and subtle swelling in the field left of the lower curls. Graded VF35 and tied for CC#7 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF40 net VF35 and tied for CC#4, his photo #26090. Comes with a very nice provenance.

LOT 400 1803 S-257 R-2 Large Fraction VF30 . Frosty light chocolate brown with steel brown on the highpoints and lighter brown in protected areas. Sharp and attractive with light wear and minor contact marks. The only notable mark is a fine scratch from the hair under the earlobe to the throat. M-LDS, Breen state IV late, with strong cracks on the upper part of the reverse and obvious swelling at STATES. Graded VF30 net VF25 and tied for CC#18 in the Noyes census, his photo #26570.

LOT 402 1803 S-259 R-4 Large Fraction VG8 . Sharpness near VF20 but covered with uniform moderate granularity. No verdigris and only trivial marks including two tiny planchet flakes off the ends of the hair ribbon. Slightly glossy olive brown and steel. LDS, Breen state IV early, with a retained cud break over STAT that connects TAT to the rim. We know of two with a partially raised retained cud and three with the full cud break. Noyes graded F15 net VG8, his photo #39498.
