LOT 394 1803 S-251 R-2 VF35 . Ten points sharper but there is a short, dull scratch near the rim left of the lower curls, a tiny nick on the cheek, and a couple more near the dentils off the end of the nose. The reverse is flawless. Glossy light chocolate brown and tan. The lighter color dominates the obverse while chocolate covers most of the reverse. The toning is uneven and that does affect the eye appeal, but there is no trace of roughness on this cent. E-MDS, Breen state II, with clashmarks but no cracks on the reverse. Comes with a great provenance.

 FINEST TERMINAL S-252

LOT 395 1803 S-252 R-2 VF30 . Sharpness EF40 or slightly better but the highpoints on both sides are toned a very dark olive brown and steel while the rest of the planchet is a very attractive glossy light brown and tan. The surfaces are perfectly smooth except for a hint of microscopic roughness on the dark areas at the back of the head, on the cheek, and in the hair at the forehead. The only contact marks are a light, curved scratch near the dentils off the lower end of the hair ribbon and a faint vertical hairline on the cheek. TDS, Breen state VIII, with a bold cud break at the lowest curl and 18. This is the finest example of the TDS known to us.
