NOYES PLATE COIN

LOT 366 1801 S-220 R-3 Error Fraction 1/000 VF30 . Glossy light olive and steel blending to reddish olive brown in protected areas. Smooth with minor marks including a barely visible rim bruise left of the lowest curl and a small dig under the right end of the wreath ribbon. M-LDS, Breen state VII, with die cracks and rim cuds on both sides including a strong one at AM. Graded VF30 and CC#6 in the Bland census. Noyes says VF35 net VF25 and tied for CC#7, his photo #26151. Comes with an important provenance.

LOT 367 1801 S-221 R-2 Corrected Denominator 100/000 F15 . Slightly sharper but there is some microscopic roughness at the shoulder on an otherwise smooth, attractive cent. Glossy olive with lighter brown on the devices and a hint of reddish brown in the roughened area at the shoulder. Just a few contact marks including a light diagonal scratch from the bust into the field above and a long diagonal nick at the left corner of the eye. TDS, Breen state VI, with a strong cud break at TAT. Graded F15 net F12 and CC#3 of the TDS in the Noyes census, his photo #26150.

LOT 369 1801 S-224 R-1 F15 . Slightly sharper where properly struck but the left edge of the reverse is not fully impressed. Olive brown and chocolate with some lighter toning across the obverse where it appears that a piece of tape was used to secure this cent into an album. The surfaces are smooth and the only significant mark is an old scratch across the top of the neck. Rare TDS, Breen state V, with a strong rim cud at AME and a smaller but clearly defined cud at the F in OF. Graded VF20 net F12 and CC#3 of those known in the TDS. This is the plate coin for the terminal die state in the 1991 Noyes reference on the cents of 1793-1814.

LOT 368 1801 S-223 R-1 Error Fraction 1/000 VF30 . EF45 sharpness but cleaned and retoned with traces of microporosity and very faint harlines visible under a glass left across the fields and devices. The notable marks include slightly stronger scratches over STATES, one on the bust tip, and a scuff on the rim above O in OF. Now toned a glossy light steel brown with underlying faded orange tan. M-LDS, Breen state V, with cud breaks at RT in LIBERTY and a thin one over IB.
