EXTREMELY RARE VEDS

LOT 348 1800 S-202 R4+ F15 . Ten points sharper but there are traces of fine verdigris in protected areas, mostly on the right side of the reverse. Rather glossy mix of medium brown and light olive blending to darker chocolate and olive brown in a few places. The only notable signs of contact are a small rim bruise at the L in LIBERTY, a pair of light vertical scratches in the field behind the head, and a few tiny ticks around the stem under the U. E-MDS, Breen state II, with an obvious bulge at ATE. Graded VF20 and tied for CC#6 in the Bland census. Noyes says VF25 net F12 and tied for CC#11, his photo #39052. Comes with the famous (infamous) Sheldon-ANS-Naftzger provenance.

LOT 349 1800 S-203 R-3 VF30 . EF45 sharpness but dark with traces of shallow verdigris in some fields and protected areas. Now a rather glossy deep steel and olive patina, with only a couple trivial ticks in the field, nothing noteworthy or distracting. LDS, Breen state V, with the obverse die bulges and heavy reverse die clashing.

LOT 351 1800 S-206 R3 VF20 . Slightly sharper but there is an obvious diagonal nick high on the neck. Otherwise just a few trivial contact marks on smooth, attractive surfaces. Glossy medium chocolate brown with reddish chocolate brown in protected areas on the reverse. Very early die state, earlier than state I in the Breen encyclopedia, with an uncracked reverse. Graded VF25 net F15 and tied for CC#14 overall but finest of those with an uncracked reverse in the Noyes census, his photo #26146. Obviously a very rare die state.

LOT 350 1800 S-203 R3 VF25+ . Glossy brown and olive blending to reddish chocolate brown in protected areas. Smooth with light wear and trivial marks including a tiny nick right of the ear and a couple more in the field before the face. MDS, Breen state III, with double clashmarks, strongest at the top of the reverse. Graded VF30 net VF20 by Noyes, his photo #29205 (no idea why there is a 10-point deduction). A very nice mid grade 1800 cent.
