EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

 SEMI-UNIQUE NOYES PLATE COIN

LOT 344 1800/79 S-193 R4 Overdate 80 over 79, Style II Hair VG10 . Five points sharper with several small rim bruises on both sides and a pit at the rim over ES in STATES. Otherwise the surfaces are smooth with only trivial marks and the toning is an attractive glossy light olive brown and steel. Semi-unique terminal die state, Breen state V, with a cud break connecting the denominator to the rim below. This is the Noyes plate coin for the die state and is graded F12 net VG7 in his census, photo #26102. The only other piece known to us is a corroded VF20 sharpness net VG8 (Daniel Holmes sale, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 9/7/2009:362). The piece offered here is clearly superior in our opinion. 

From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 345 1800 S-198 R5+ VG7 . Sharpness F15 or slightly better but covered with uniform moderate granularity. No verdigris and the only mark is a nick near the rim left of the lower curls. Olive brown with lighter steel brown on the highpoints. MDS, Breen state IV, with die clashmarks at the top of the obverse. Noyes graded F15 net G6 and tied for CC#9, his photo #25705. The date and legends are clear.

LOT 347 1800 S-199 R4 VF25 . Glossy light olive and chocolate brown with some slightly darker toning at OF AMER. Smooth with trivial contact marks, none notable. MDS, Breen state V, with a small but bold cud break at the F in OF in addition to other cracks and swelling on the reverse. Called VF25 net F15 and tied for CC#9 in the Noyes census, his photo #26689.

LOT 346 1800 S-199 R4 VF25 . Very attractive light chocolate brown with lighter brown in protected areas. Smooth and nearly choice with just a few small marks including a small tick near the hair under the L and a shallow dig below TE in STATES. Rare EDS, Breen state I, with die clashmarks but no cracks on the reverse. Graded VF30 net VF25 and tied for CC#5 overall but finest of the early die state in the Noyes census, his photo #26640.
