 FINEST TERMINAL S-186

LOT 341 1798 S-186 R2 Small 8, Style II Hair AG3+ . Partly glossy steel brown and chocolate. Mostly smooth with trivial roughness and minor marks, essentially just well worn. The date and at least half of the legends are clearly readable. What makes this cent special is the remarkable terminal die state, Breen X late, with two retained cud breaks on the reverse. In spite of the low grade this piece is still the finest of the latest die state.

LOT 343 1799 S-189 R-2 AG3 . Cleaned and now toned deep olive brown with iridescent blue and red tones on rather glossy surfaces. There are traces of pitting on LIberty’s cheek and jaw, some dark old scale along the profile and bust tip, and faint hairline scratches on the portrait and fields. LIBERTY and UNIT are gone, but the remaining legends are readable and the date is strong and complete.

LOT 342 1798 S-187 R1 Small 8, Style II Hair VF30+ . Sharpness EF40 with smooth surfaces and very attractive glossy light chocolate brown toning, but there are a few contact marks. A pair of nicks left of the eye and two stronger marks at ER in AMERICA are the only notable defects. Traces of mint frost show in protected areas and there is some reddish brown toning inside the right ribbon loop. E-MDS, Breen state II, with die cracks on both sides.
