EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 338 1798 S-185 R2 Small 8, Style II Hair VF20 . Glossy medium chocolate brown. Smooth with trivial marks and really nice eye appeal for the grade. The best identifying mark, and it is faint, is a light, dull nick at the left top of the E in STATES. E-MDS, Breen state II, with light die clashmarks on the reverse.
LOT 335 1798 S-179 R-2 VF25 . A few points sharper but appears struck through some grease around the profile. There are a couple minor nicks before Liberty’s chin and another at F in OF. Glossy chocolate and olive browns with hints of light brown underneath. Smooth surfaces.

LOT 336 1798 S-181 R3 Small 8, Style II Hair F15+ . Variety with a Large 00 over Small 00 in the Denominator. Glossy chocolate and steel brown. Smooth with trivial marks and great eye appeal for the grade. A small planchet flake on the rim over the second S in STATES is the only notable mark. LDS, Breen state IV, with several die cracks on the obverse and a slightly raised retained cud break at the bust tip. Struck with the reverse rotated 35 degrees CCW. The small 0’s inside the larger 0’s in the denominator are clearly visible.
LOT 339 1798 S-186 R2 Small 8, Style II Hair VF35 . Frosty chocolate brown and steel. Lightly worn and attractive, but there are a few minor marks including a light diagonal nick close below the earlobe and a shallow planchet flake at the dentils over the D in UNITED. MDS, Breen state VII, with die cracks and clashmarks on both sides.

LOT 337 1798 S-182 R4 Small 8, Style II Hair VF35 . Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel with mint frost in some of the protected areas, particularly on the reverse. There are small, subtle puffs of slightly darker olive brown toning scattered over the obverse, a small tick high on the cheek, and a minor rim nick over the second T in STATES. A sharp, very attractive cent. MDS, Breen state II, with die clashmarks on both sides. Graded VF30 and tied for CC#7 in the Bland census. Noyes says VF35 net VF30 and tied for CC#5, his photo #25961.
LOT 340 1798 S-186 R-2 PCGS XF Detail (Cleaned) . XF40 sharpness but cleaned and now toned medium olive and subtle reddish brown. There are some faint hairlines in the fields of both sides. Smooth surfaces. Graded VF35 and TCC#5 by Del Bland. Noyes says XF45 net VF30 and TCC#8, his photo #23323. MDS, Breen state III. Our grade is VF35. 36125.92/44293944
