LOT 324 1798 S-157 R2 Small 8, Style I Hair VF20+ . Sharpness VF30 with smooth surfaces and very nice eye appeal, but there is a dull scratch under ONE. Glossy light to medium brown with wisps of darker olive brown toning on both sides and frosty tan in protected areas. E-MDS, Breen state II late, with a faint line of small lumps in the field before the neck but no crumbling on the profile and no crack through the date. 

 EXTREMELY RARE DIE STATE

LOT 325 1798 S-158 R4 Small 8, Style I Hair G6 . Several points sharper but covered with light to moderate corrosion. No notable verdigris or contact marks. A small planchet flake at the rim over the R in AMERICA can help identify this cent. Slightly glossy dark chocolate brown and steel. Not a pretty cent but the date is strong and the legends are clear. Extremely rare M-LDS, Breen state V, with a strong cud break connecting IT to the rim above. Only five examples of this die state are known to us. Graded F15 net G5 in the Noyes census, his photo #29269.

LOT 326 1798 S-159 R3 Small 8, Style I Hair VG8 . Slightly sharper with some nicks on otherwise smooth, attractive surfaces. Glossy medium chocolate brown with lighter brown on the devices. No corrosion or verdigris. A nick on the 1 in the date and two thin parallel nicks right of the D in UNITED can help identify this cent. Extremely rare TDS, Breen state VII, with a cud break connecting the L to the rim. Struck with the reverse rotated 20 degrees CCW. Graded F12 net VG10 and finest of only 6 known of the die state in the Noyes census, his photo #38322.
