LOT 305 1797 S-120b R-2 Reverse of 1796, Gripped Edge VF20+ . Sharpness EF45 but covered with microscopic granularity under rather glossy dark olive brown and steel toning. No verdigris and the only mark is a diagonal scratch from the cheek into the hair where it fades away. MDS, Breen state III, with crumbling at the throat. The date and devices are strong and the “Grip Marks” on the edge are clear.

LOT 302 1796 S-114 R-5- ANACS G4 Details (Corroded, Scratched) . A point or two sharper but corroded with traces of old verdigris and shallow scale around UNITED and AMERICA. There are also various nicks and minor pin scratches scattered on both sides. Pleasing chocolate and olive browns. The bottom half of the date weak but can just be made out, and partial legends on this scarce variety. Our grade is FR2. 7855985

LOT 303 1796 S-115 R-3 Draped Bust F15 . At least 5 points sharper but there are some light rim bruises on both sides and two pits on the reverse: one at the bottom of the T in CENT and another below the C in AMERICA. Glossy chocolate brown and steel with traces of lighter reddish brown in protected areas, mostly on the reverse. E-MDS, Breen state II late, with clashmarks but no cracks on the obverse. Called F15 net VG10 and tied for CC#14 in the Noyes census, his photo #25846.

LOT 306 1797 S-122 R-5+ Fair-2+ . Slightly sharper with an easily readable date and at least half of the legends and devices visible, but covered with fine roughness. No verdigris and the only mark is a sharp rim nick at the bottom of the reverse. Extremely rare TDS, Breen state VI, with a bold cud break connecting MERIC to the rim. Graded AG3 net Fair-2 and tied for CC#2 of only 3 known in the Noyes census, and the finest is a scudzy net AG3, his photo #62603. Not much from which to choose, and the cud break is quite bold on this example.

LOT 304 1797 S-120b R-2 Gripped Edge PCGS XF Details (Repaired) . XF45 sharpness but cleaned and retoned dark steel brown with traces of underlying tan and orange. The notable marks include a nick on I in UNITED, and wispy pin scratches on the neck. Reverse of 1796, Gripped Edge. MDS, die state b. Our grade is VF35. 35900.98/44279263
