EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 297 1796 S-107 R-5 Draped Bust G6 . Perhaps a point sharper, especially on the reverse, but covered with fine roughness under mostly glossy chocolate brown toning. No notable verdigris but there are a half dozen small digs on the obverse and one more at the left side of the M in AMERICA. E-MDS, Breen state I late, with a light crack through the top of RTY. The date and legends are complete and clear. Graded VG7 by Del Bland. Noyes says VG7 net G5. Comes with a nice provenance.

LOT 300 1796 S-112 R-4+ PCGS F12 . Chocolate and steel browns with a couple subtle spots around 9:30 on the obverse field. There are trivial scattered marks consistent with the grade, most notably under the hair braid and at UN in UNITED. Smooth surfaces. Breen die state IV with the sinking causing the central reverse legends to be weak. Our grade is VG8. 35807.12/34361835

LOT 298 1796 S-110 R-3 Draped Bust VF20 . Sharpness VF35 but covered with extremely fine roughness mostly hidden under glossy dark olive brown and chocolate toning with lighter brown on the highpoints. No verdigris and the only mark is a diagonal scratch at the end of the bust. MDS, Breen state IV early, with light die cracks on the obverse. Graded VF35 net F15 in the Noyes census, his photo #26978.

LOT 301 1796 S-114 R-5- Draped Bust F15 . Ten points sharper with several small splashes of reddish brown on the obverse, and a few of those splashes contain traces of microscopic roughness and verdigris. The remainder of the planchet is smooth and the toning is an attractive glossy light olive brown. The only notable sign of contact is a dull but relatively strong nick in the dentils before the nose. EDS, Breen state I, with an uncracked obverse. Called VF20 net VG10 and tied for CC#14 in the Noyes census, his photo #28909.

LOT 299 1796 S-111 R-5- Reverse of 1794 G6 . VG sharpness but there is fine granularity covering the surfaces, smoother on the high points. Dark brown with lighter olive brown on the high points. There is a small die break below E in UNITED that helps identify this scarce variety.
