 THE PARMELEE-NEWCOMB S-67

LOT 283 1794 S-67 R-3 Head of 1795 VF30+ . At least five points sharper with a bold strike and great eye appeal, but there are small contact marks on both sides, none significant but too many to ignore. The best identifying defects are a thin nick left of the L in LIBERTY and tiny rim nicks at the second S in STATES and the I in AMERICA. Glossy light chocolate brown mixed with lighter brown, particularly on the obverse. MDS, Breen state III, with fine die cracks and die clashmarks on the obverse. Called EF40 net VF25 and tied for CC#21 in the Noyes census, his photo #25716. Comes with a great provenance that has been traced back well over 100 years.

LOT 285 1795 S-73 R-5- Lettered Edge VG7 . Glossy chocolate brown with lighter brown on the devices. The highpoints are smooth but a glass reveals microscopic roughness in the fields and protected areas. A light rim bruise left of the cap is the only notable mark. The date is strong and the legends are clear. Rare LDS, Breen state IV, with a nearly vertical die crack in the field before the portrait. Graded VG8 net G6 and tied for CC#19 in the Noyes census, his photo #25880

LOT 284 1794 S-72 R-2 Exact Head of 1795 VG8 . Sharpness VF20 but the right side of the obverse is plagued with many planchet voids. The reverse has a smaller area of fine voids in the opposing area at OF AMERI, all as struck. Otherwise the planchet is smooth, nearly choice, with glossy light to medium brown toning. No notable contact marks or other defects. A nice cent but the planchet flaws certainly catch your eye. M-LDS, Breen state IV, with clashmarks and fine die cracks on both sides.
