EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 272 1794 S-35 R-5 VG8 . Sharpness VF25 but the surfaces are slightly uneven with two obvious depressions at the date and some light rim bruises on both sides. Recolored a slightly glossy steel brown with traces of reddish tan in protected areas. The surfaces look smooth to the unaided eye but a glass reveals microscopic granularity that covers the fields and protected areas. E-MDS, Breen state IV, with a fine vertical crack on the obverse and die clashmarks on both sides. Struck with the reverse rotated 30 degrees clockwise.

LOT 273 1794 S-36 R-5 VG10 . Several points sharper but there are two light scratches near the ear and the toning is uneven thanks to areas of extremely fine roughness under the glossy toning. Glossy chocolate with lighter brown on the devices. EDS. The eye appeal is quite nice for the grade in spite of the imperfections; the reverse is nearly choice. Graded F12 net VG8 and tied for CC#19 in the Noyes census, his photo #26395. And it comes with a nice provenance.

LOT 275 1794 S-36 R-5 G6 . A point or so sharper but there are minor nicks on both sides and microscopic roughness on the surfaces. The notable marks include a nick over the eye, a couple over T and below the last S in STATES, a scratch under the last A in AMERICA, and another scratch on the border over O in OF. There Is also a rim bruise just after OF. Original two tone deep steel with lighter olive on the high points. Graded VG7 net G5 by Noyes, his photo #60640. 

LOT 274 1794 S-36 R-5 PCGS G04 . G6 sharpness but lightly smoothed the hair behind the ear and inside the wreath. There is a small dig in the hair near the ear and a pair of short, vertical scratches on the shoulder. Recolored glossy dark olive brown and steel. Fairly smooth surfaces, no verdigris. The bottom of the date is fading but easily readable, and ONE CENT is gone, but the legends are readable otherwise. Our grade is G4. 901374.04/44306849
