EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 261 1794 S-19b R-4 Head of 1793, Edge of 1794 G6 . Slightly sharper, particularly in those areas where the devices were properly struck, but recolored. Glossy steel brown and chocolate with lighter tan in protected areas. Smooth with even wear, but the upper third of the reverse is relatively weak from the uneven strike. The only marks are a few small digs at the top of the bust near the neck. The lower part of the date is weak but it remains easily readable. LDS with obvious swelling under the cap. A nice lower grade cent, and the Head of 1793 is relatively strong

LOT 264 1794 S-21 R-3 VF20 . Slightly sharper but there are some nicks on the obverse and a rim bruise left of the bottom of the cap. Attractive glossy light to medium brown. LDS, Breen state V, with fine die cracks and clashmarks.

LOT 262 1794 S-20b R-5 Head of 1793, Edge of 1794 VG8 . Glossy olive brown with lighter steel brown covering the devices. Smooth and attractive, nice for the grade. Only trivial marks including a couple hairlines in the field under the jaw and another horizontal one through ONE. MDS. The date and legends are strong except for strike weakness on the left edge of the reverse. A small nick at the left foot of the E in AMERICA is a good identifying mark. Graded VG10 net VG7 and tied for CC#19 in the Noyes census, his photo #25734.

LOT 265 1794 S-22 R-1 VF25 . Very attractive glossy light to medium brown with smooth surfaces and just a few small contact marks. The notable marks are a tiny rim bruise off the lower end of the cap and a dull nick under the O in OF. Mint frost shows in protected areas and this cent has very nice eye appeal. MDS, Breen state V, with “Mounds” on the reverse and fine die clashmarks on both sides.

LOT 263 1794 S-21 R-3 VF20 . Ten points sharper but lightly cleaned and nicely retoned glossy chocolate and steel brown with some lighter brown on both sides. Smooth, void of any hint of roughness or verdigris, but there are a few marks. The notable marks are a half dozen small, light rim bruises on the obverse, the strongest at the top of the cap, and a couple hairline scratches in the obverse fields. E-MDS, Breen state III, with a single light die crack on the obverse. Graded VF30 net VF20 and tied for CC#27 in the Noyes census, his photo #25873.

LOT 266 1794 S-23 R-4+ VG10 . Five points sharper but there are two rim bumps left of the cap and numerous microscopic ticks scattered over both sides. Glossy steel brown and light chocolate with lighter brown in protected areas. Void of any trace of corrosion or verdigris. LDS, Breen state V, with die cracks on the obverse and swelling in the center of the reverse. Graded F15 net VG8 by Noyes, his photo #25714.
