LARGE CENTS

LOT 251 1793 S-2 R-4+ AMERICA PCGS G6 . Attractive chocolate brown and steel with traces of grainy crud in some fields and protected areas. The notable marks are a dull nick in the hair and some wispy hairline scratches below the bottom hair curls that blend in well. There is also a planchet lamination through the first A in AMERICA. The date is nearly gone but can just be made out under a lamp in hand, and the legends are weak but mostly readable. Our grade is G4. 1341.06/27117885

LOT 254 1793 S-3 R-3- Chain Cent FR2 . Glossy deep olive brown with microscopic roughness on the reverse. There are old hairline scratches on both sides, a rim bruise before the first S in STATES, and a thin planchet lamination on the upper left reverse. The date is gone but the portrait fully outlined, LIBERTY clear, and reverse legends weak but mostly readable in hand.

LOT 253 1793 S-3 R-3- Chain Cent Repaired . VF sharpness but holed, plugged, and repaired with a clear plug before Liberty’s mouth. Slightly indented on the plug, and the legends at TAT in STATES have been engraved. Otherwise tan brown and steel browns on smooth surfaces. The remaining legend and date are strong.

LOT 252 1793 S-2 R-4+ AMERICA Chain Cent FR2+ . Deep olive and rose surfaces with scattered nicks on both sides. The most notable is one on I in AMERICA and two on the upper cheek.The date is gone, but the portrait is nearly fully outlined, and most legends remain readable, with full AMERICA easily identified.

LOT 255 1793 S-5 R-4 Wreath Cent VG10 . VF25 sharpness but there is uniform micro granularity covering the surfaces under a slightly glossy dark olive and steel brown patina. The notable marks include a dull dent in the hair left of the neck, a couple of nicks in the field under the chin, and a strong nick on the N in UNITED. There are also some fine hairline scratches that blend in well with the patina, mostly around the wreath. No verdigris. Clear date and legends except ENT in CENT, which are weak due to swelling inside the wreath.
