LOT 201 1805 C-1 R-2- Small 5 Stemless AU55 . Possibly Broadstruck. Lustrous chocolate and steel. The surfaces are satiny and the eye appeal is consistent with a mint state example. The only marks are a tiny rim nick under the tip of the bust and another on the rim over the first S in STATES. MDS. The strike on this example is significantly different than usually seen as the rims are wide and flat giving this piece the look of a broadstruck mint error. Similar strikes are seen on a few 1805 and 1806 half cents, but the exact cause of the wide, flat rims is uncertain. The lack of a properly fitting striking collar is an obvious guess, but tight collars were not introduced until much later. What is certain is the odd appearance of these pieces and the great eye appeal of this example. The reverse is rotated 20 degrees CW. Manley State 1.0.

LOT 202 1805 C-1 R-2- Small 5 Stemless G4 . A point or two sharper but there are old scratches on both sides. The most notable include one before the nose, one from the ear to the shoulder, one behind the hair braid, a small one on T in CENT, and another through the lower right wreath. There is also a tiny rim bruise at NI in UNITED. Double struck on the obverse, the first strike rotated CCW a few degrees most obvious around the profile. Bold date and legends with fairly smooth surfaces.

LOT 203 1805 C-2 R-5 Small 5 Stems VG8 . A couple points sharper but cleaned long ago and now toned a pleasing medium brown. There are old hairlines on the portrait and fields that blend in well. Smooth surfaces. Manley state 1.0.
