INDIANAPOLIS EAC 2024 ATTRACTIVE S-182 EX MASTERS-NAFTZGER

LOT 306 1798 S-182 R4 Small 8, Style II Hair VF30+. Very attractive glossy light to medium chocolate brown. The only notable mark is a small scratch or nick over the left side of the N in UNITED. MDS, Breen state II, with die clashmarks on both sides. Graded EF40 net VF30 and tied for CC#5 in the Noyes census, his photo #26760. Bland says VF30 and tied for CC#7 in his census. Comes with a very nice provenance. Ex Richard Picker 7/18/1956-C. Douglas Smith-Stack’s-Frank H. Masters, Jr., Rare Coin Company of America 5/1971:122-R. E. Naftzger, Jr., New Netherlands Coin Co. 11/1973:498-George Ramont-Thomas D. Reynolds-Sam Nacol Collection-Nacol Estate, Early Cents Auctions 6/4/2022:36 (includes the New Netherlands/Naftzger lot envelope and last lot ticket)

LOT 307 1798 S-184 R1 Small 8, Style II Hair, PCGS graded VF20. Glossy light olive brown and chocolate. Smooth with nice eye appeal and even wear. Just a couple rim nicks at the U in UNITED from choice. MDS. Our grade is F15. 1434.20/47166638

LOT 308 1798 S-186 R2 Small 8, Style II Hair VF30. Frosty light chocolate and steel brown with reddish brown toning in protected areas. The obverse is mostly smooth with just a couple areas of microscopic roughness, but microscopic roughness covers most of the reverse and there are tiny specks of verdigris on that side. Small planchet fissures on the rim at the E in STATES and O in OF are the only notable marks (both as struck). MDS, Breen state V, with a raised, bifurcated retained cud break connected to the 00 in the denominator. A sharp example of a neat die state, and the obverse has excellent eye appeal. Would grade AU50 if the surfaces were perfectly smooth.
