2024 EAC Sale

INDIANAPOLIS EAC 2024

LOT 120 1803 C-4 R4 VF20. Slightly sharper with a few hairline scratches on the portrait. The scratches are barely visible with a glass and the eye appeal of this piece is nice. Glossy light olive and chocolate with reddish brown in protected areas on the obverse. Struck head-to-head with no rotation. The clashmarks inside the left part of the wreath are strong but HALF is a bit weakly struck.

LOT 119 1803 C-2 R4 NGC VG Details, Burnished. Slightly glossy dark chocolate and steel. Covered with fine granularity that has been lightly burnished leaving a frosty appearance. No marks or verdigris. E-MDS, Manley state 3.0, with fine die cracks on the reverse but no cud breaks. The date and legends are strong. Our grade is VG8+ sharpness net G6. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. 6703127-004

LOT 121 1804 C-1 R3 VG10. Glossy steel brown and light chocolate. Smooth and very nice for the grade, just worn. A dull nick hidden in the hair right of the hair ribbon is the only mark. EDS, Manley state 1.0. Ex Gordon Wrubel 1977-Colonel Ray Bright, 2008 EAC Sale, McCawley & Grellman Auctions 5/10/2008:67 (includes the Bright collection envelope and lot ticket) LATE STATE 1804 C-2 RARITY

LOT 122 1804 C-2 R6- Fair-2+. Slightly sharper but covered with fine roughness. No verdigris but there are a half dozen fine scratches on the obverse and a couple more on the reverse. Slightly glossy mix of medium steel brown, chocolate, and olive brown. Probably lightly cleaned and retoned. The left half of both sides is weakly struck, as always on the variety but especially pronounced in the late die state. LDS, Manley state 3.0, with a strong cud break connecting ERTY to the rim. The reverse is rotated about 30 degrees clockwise from the normal head-to-foot die orientation. The date is weak but readable and most of the legends are clear. The Missouri Cabinet example of the variety with the cud break was a cleaned and damaged net G4+ that brought $12,075 (McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 1/24/2014:61), and the corroded net G6 example in the Davy Collection Sale (McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 9/4/2011:210) brought $32,200. A rare variety in any die state but especially difficult to find nice in the late die state.
