INDIANAPOLIS EAC 2024
LOT 86 1787 New Jersey Maris 6-D R2 PCGS graded XF40. Frosty olive brown and steel with slightly lighter toning on the highpoints. There are numerous microscopic planchet chips on both sides but no corrosion or verdigris. The only notable mark is a very fine scratch across the middle of the shield to the rim at UN. Later die state with die fissures in the obverse fields and strong cracks at the bottom of the shield. The 87 is blunted but the date is easily readable. Our grade is net VF30. 503.40/29235946
LOT 89 1787 New Jersey Maris 63-s R2 VF20+. Sharpness VF30 but covered with very fine hairline scratches, all blended into the attractive frosty light chocolate and steel toning. The best identifying mark is a small pre striking planchet chip low on the neck. Sharply struck with strong detail. The repunching on the 8 is clear. Weight 157.4 grains.

LOT 90 1788 New Jersey Maris 67-v R1 VF30. The obverse is choice glossy medium chocolate brown with smooth surfaces. The reverse is medium olive brown with fine verdigris covering the fields and protected areas. The only mark is a tiny planchet chip at the rim at the top of the obverse. A curved planchet clip off the end of the plow beam (as struck) is the best identifying feature. The date and legends are complete and bold. Would rate a significantly higher grade if the surfaces on the reverse were as nice as they are on the obverse. Weight 145.9 grains.
LOT 87 1787 New Jersey Maris 15-L R4 NGC graded F12. Glossy medium brown with darker olive brown in protected areas. Mostly smooth with nice eye appeal for the grade, but a glass reveals microscopic roughness in some of the protected areas. The only marks are some very light scuffs on the right side of the obverse. MDS with swelling in the field on the right side of the obverse. Our grade is VG10.
LOT 91 1787 Vermont Ryder-14 R3 VF20. At least 5 points sharper but there are a few planchet flaws on an otherwise very nice planchet. A thin fissure from the back of the head to the rim under the bust, a delaminated chip at IB in LIB, and a smaller fissure from the back of the head to the chip at IB are the only notable flaws. Traces of fine verdigris show in protected areas and reddish slag shows in the fissures. Glossy olive brown and chocolate. A curved planchet clip affects the tops of AU in AUCTORI. The date is tight to the edge but it is strong and the legends are very strong. This piece has nice eye appeal for a Vermont in spite of the flaws. Weight 114.1 grains.
LOT 88 1787 New Jersey Maris 63-q R3 F12+. Attractive medium brown with slightly darker steel brown on the highpoints. No roughness or verdigris, only light contact marks. A small planchet chip over the V in NOVA and a light scratch on the chest of the horse are the notable marks. LDS with minor swelling at the head, a crack through PLU, and cud breaks on the left top of the shield. Weight 127.4 grains.
