LOT 778 1843 N-5 R1 Mature Head with “DEVINS & BOLTON/MONTREA” on Obverse, Brunk D-320, Fair-2. Rather glossy medium brown and chocolate. The stamp is strong, the host cent is smashed. Devins & Bolton was a merchant in Montreal, Quebec. They operated a wholesale and retail establishment as chemists and druggists. The partnership began in 1863 and ended in 1892. Most of the thousands of their stamps are on large cents, but they stamped most everything they could get their hands on, including various foreign coins. A cheap and probably effective way to advertise at that time.

LOT 779 1843 N-15 R3 VF30. Slightly sharper with a pair of light scratches in the field behind the portrait. Otherwise smooth and very nice. Glossy medium brown. LDS, die state b. Softly struck at the top of the obverse and bottom of the reverse.

LOT 782 1846 N-11 R1 Medium Date VF35. Frosty light brown and tan. A speck of carbon in the dentils near the U in UNITED is the only mark. EDS, die state a.

LOT 781 Pair of Cents, 1844 & 1851. Includes 1844/81 N-2 R2 Overdate 44 over 81 LDS F15, and 1851/81 N-3 R1 Overdate 51 over 18 EDS F15+. Both have clear overdates (both over an inverted 18), and the toning is an attractive glossy brown and chocolate. A nice pair of “Redbook” varieties.
