 RARE 1807/6 SMALL OVERDATE

LOT 725 1807/6 S-272 R4+ Overdate Small 7 over 6 AG3. Cleaned and recolored glossy steel brown and chocolate with lighter tan areas that attest to the cleaning. The planchet is free of any trace of corrosion or verdigris but there are numerous small nicks on the portrait. The best identifying marks are a dull rim nick left of the date and a chip at the top of the E in CENT. EDS. The date is bold and the overdate feature is obvious to the unaided eye. An acceptable example of this tough “Redbook” variety.

LOT 726 1807/6 S-273 R1 Overdate Large 7 over 6 VG8. Sharpness F12 or a bit better but dark and covered with fine roughness. There are specks of reddish verdigris in the field before the portrait, more on the lower half of the reverse, and a few hairline scratches in the field left of the lower curls. Slightly glossy dark olive brown and steel with reddish steel in the areas of verdigris on the reverse. M-LDS with die clashmarks at the portrait and swelling at the lower curls. The overdate feature is clear.

LOT 728 1807 S-274 R2 Small Fraction F15. Sharpness EF40 with patches of corrosion on the obverse and verdigris mixed with fine corrosion in protected areas on the reverse. A patch of corrosion at the top of the head contains specks of verdigris. Just light contact marks including some faint hairline scratches in the hair, a few more in the field over the hair ribbon, and a scrape on the F in OF. Partly glossy chocolate brown and olive. MDS, Breen state III, with swelling at STA.

LOT 727 1807/6 S-273 R1 Overdate Large 7 over 6 G5. Rather glossy chocolate on the devices, darker olive brown in protected areas. No defects, just worn. The date and overdate are bold.

LOT 729 1807 S-274 R2 Small Fraction VG8. Sharpness F12 but covered with very fine roughness. The only mark is a small patch of fine reddish verdigris left of the L. Olive brown and dark steel. MDS with obvious swelling at STA.
