EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 453 1835 N-3 R3 Head of 1834, Small 8 VF25+. Glossy light olive brown and chocolate. Smooth with trivial contact marks. A few specks of lighter brown toning right of the hair bun and a small nick right of the second A in AMERICA can help identify this cent. M-LDS, Grellman die state c, with a small rim cud break left of star 2 reaching to the middle of the dentils. The later die crack from the brow lock toward star 4 has not formed. Nice for the grade, close to VF30.

LOT 456 1836 N-2 R2 EF40. Five points sharper but there is a light rim bruise at the O in OF and a trace of reddish carbon on the rim under the end of the wreath ribbon. Otherwise smooth and attractive with glossy light olive toning. MDS, Grellman state c, with die cracks on the reverse.

LOT 454 1835 N-9 R4 Large 8, Head of 1834 F15. Ten points sharper but covered with microscopic roughness under rather glossy dark olive brown toning. The highpoints are a lighter shade of steel brown. No contact marks and the only verdigris is a small patch midway between star 4 and the forehead. EDS, Grellman state a, with an uncracked reverse.

LOT 457 1836 N-4 R3 VF35. Slightly sharper but there are traces of fine carbon in protected areas on the reverse, mostly at MER. The only notable contact marks are a light scratch over star 1 and a couple light vertical nicks on the jaw. Glossy medium brown with lighter brown and tan in protected areas. E-MDS, Grellman state b, with fine die cracks on the reverse but before the narrow rim cud at stars 1-2.

LOT 455 1835 N-19 R5 Head of 1836 VG8+. Sharpness VF25 but granular. No verdigris but there are a few rim nicks including one at star 11 and another at the bottom of the reverse. Dark olive brown and steel with lighter toning on the portrait from a rub.
