INDIANAPOLIS EAC 2024
LOT 357 1803 S-243 R1 Stemless Wreath, Doubled Fraction Bar PCGS graded XF45. Frosty light olive and steel brown. Smooth and quite attractive with light friction on the devices and just a few trivial marks. A small nick or planchet chip on the rim under the 3 is the only notable defect. M-LDS, Breen state IV, with a strong rim cud break right of the Y in LIBERTY and a very narrow rim break over that TY. The Stemless Wreath, Doubled Fraction Bar, and Boldly Doubled Second S in STATES are all strong. Our grade is VF35. 1482.45/35328145

SHARP 1803 S-244
LOT 358 1803 S-244 R4 VF20. Sharpness EF40 but there are fine hairline scratches on the obverse, especially in the field before the portrait, and stronger scratches in the dentils over ITE in UNITED. The obverse fields appear to have been lightly smoothed but the eye appeal of this cent is quite nice. Glossy medium brown with chocolate on the highpoints. MDS, Breen state II, with die clashmarks on both sides and weakened hair details at the top of the head from die polishing. Not perfect but still one of the sharpest examples known.

LOT 359 1803 S-245 R3 VF20. Five points sharper but there is a fine scratch from the top of the hair ribbon to the throat. Otherwise just minor marks including some faint hairlines and small nicks in the field behind the portrait. Glossy dark chocolate and steel brown with traces of frosty lighter reddish brown toning in some of the protected areas, especially on the right side of the reverse. LDS, Breen state III, with a large, strong cud break connecting RICA to the rim and strong die clashmarks on the obverse. The strike is uneven, strong on the right sides and weaker on the left sides, a result of the die faces being out of perfect axial alignment. A neat die state
